Ms. Lynda & Arrian are wonderful. I've been going to Dr. Hettler for years and he has the best staff. Lynda and Arrian educated me on proper eye care when it comes to consistent contact wear and the benefits of having a pair of glasses. They spent quality time helping me find a frame that not only fits my face but looks good on me and is stylish . I'm forever grateful they've taken my eye wear into the new century
Dr Ge is always helpful and positive. Ari is super helpful, knowledgeable, and efficient. She ensured that I got glasses that fit my face well and that I got the best price.
This establishment is awful. Rude front desk women, staff who conduct the tests before seeing the Dr. don't seem to know what they are doing and the Dr. makes very weird and unfriendly remarks during your visit. They are extremely unhelpful and have gotten my insurance wrong every time I visit. I've only been there a few times and each time was worse than the previous. Go somewhere else!
The optician was fine--but it took over a month for my glasses to come in. I repeatedly called for information and updates, and they assured me that they would notify me when the glasses came in. Well, I called again (9/20/2025) (after repeated messages on their voicemail asking them to call me went unanswered), and apparently my glasses have arrived! And their text system to notify people is down. This is, apparently, a known issue to them, and their solution is not to call their clients as their orders come in, but just to do absolutely nothing and give me attitude when I ask for an update. The person I spoke to on the phone was incredibly rude, acted like I was being a huge inconvenience to her day, and seemed absolutely baffled about why I had any issue waiting FIVE AND A HALF WEEKS without any updates that I did not have to call and pry out of them myself.
I WISH that this was it. But when I finally went in to pick up my glasses, they had a bright blue flashy filter that I DID NOT REQUEST and DID NOT WANT on there. And it turns out it was the charge they told me was ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED, and was just "anti-reflective coating." After talking to the office manager (who did seem nice), I learned that this (their employees lying and adding blue light filters that weren't requested, that is) is ALSO a known issue. It's not absolutely required, by the way, so I waited even longer for them to fix it.
I picked the final glasses up today (10/7), and yes, I did have to call and ask if the glasses were in yet first as they didn't notify me. Are they less blue? Sure. Are they still weird? Unfortunately! But I'm not willing to spend a second more of my time dealing with the difficulty this place has brought me, so hopefully I can get used to it and it doesn't give me massive headaches like their contact prescription did, because I would rather deal with the pain then return here at this point.
You can see from the most recent reviews that clearly, even if this was once a good place to go, it's customer service has become absolutely terrible in the last few months.
Update: Even after just 3 hours I can tell you that these lenses suck and my eyes won't focus on anything less than 10 feet away. So it turns out that the actual optometry services are awful too, regardless of whether it's glasses or contacts that you're after.
They had issues with several systems and I walked out with another patient's glasses prescription. Didn't even notice it was not my name on the form until AFTER I ordered new glasses at Warby Parker. Had to call back to pay my co pay which was not included in the total.
Overall did not give me confidence but the staff was friendly.
Staff were very accomodating. Very welcoming. That's why, I highly recommended this to my fellow Filipino Ambassador Teachers here in Virginia.
This Deserves LESS Than a 1-Star Rating! Clarkson is a JOKE Now!
Google needs to update this system to let me give a ZERO because this is absolutely abysmal. This is how badly things have fallen apart:
Last year (2024), Clarkson had an incredible doctor--Dr. Friedman (I think)--who was meticulous. He took his time, got my medically necessary scleral contact lenses perfectly fitted. A year later, they're still fantastic.
Then Dr. Friedman vanishes, moves to a new state, and everything went straight into the toilet.
My wife and I went for our annual exam in June 2025 to get new lenses fitted. IT IS NOW OCTOBER. That's over three months! And what do we have? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
I've repeatedly called the front desk--the only bright spot--with the amazing, friendly ladies like Shahana, Julie, and Lina. They've done everything they can to escalate this nightmare. The manager was supposed to call and explain this insane delay... DEAD SILENCE.
But here's the kicker: I called my insurance. They told me a Dr. Gee from Clarkson tried to submit a claim using the WRONG CODE and it was rejected. Did they try again? NO! They just stopped!
I've already moved on to a new practitioner who is getting this done faster. I've instructed my insurance to REJECT ANY AND ALL CLAIMS from Clarkson. Three-plus months of waiting for contacts I NEED TO SEE WITH!
And the manager? A complete liar. I've lost count of how many times I was told she would personally contact us.
It's genuinely sad that Dr. Friedman, the only one who seemed competent, is gone. It's even sadder to call the front desk and hear the defeat in the voices of the staff who are powerless to fix the mess their management has created. The manager's job is to step in and communicate, but she can't even be bothered.
They could have just been honest and said, "We don't have a doctor with the expertise to handle scleral lenses anymore" instead of wasting four months of our time and playing games with my vision. GOODNESS, GET A GRIP, CLARKSON!
Everyone here is great, especially the ladies at the front desk. They took me for an appointment because I was in so much pain, even though there was a mix up and we showed up to the wrong location and they were fully booked. I wish I got their names. Also both doctors were wonderful. Thank you guys so much!!
