I had RLE Refractive Lens Exchange surgery with Dr Tian at Near and Far Vision and it was a very smooth and enjoyable experience. Near & Far Vision offers a personalized and efficient experience. I traveled from out of state to consult with Dr. Tian due to a complex situation from a poor outcome of surgery done elsewhere. Dr. Tian thoroughly reviewed my case and presented options that other Doctors had not thought of. The practice has all of the newest top of the line testing equipment. I underwent a refractive lens exchange (RLE) with Dr. Tian, but my situation was not straightforward. Back in 1980, I had radial keratotomy (RK) surgery, which can make modern lens procedures more complex and less predictable. Dr. Tian was willing to take on that challenge with confidence and precision. About a week before the surgery, he called me to reinforce realistic expectations and to make sure all of my questions were answered. Then the day of the surgery he met with me again before the surgery. I never felt rushed. He was thorough, direct, and transparent about what the procedure could and could not achieve. During the surgery itself, Dr. Tian kept me informed about what he was doing at each step. That ongoing communication made a significant difference in keeping me calm and confident throughout the procedure. The results have exceeded my expectations. The day after the procedure, I was handed a card with progressively smaller lines of text -- and I was able to read the very smallest line. That alone was remarkable. What has impressed me even more is the clarity and color brilliance. Colors appear more vivid, and fine detail is dramatically sharper at all distances. We have a pond behind our house, and instead of seeing a general blur of reeds, I can now distinguish individual reeds clearly. The improvement in both near and distance vision is extraordinary. When my wife asked how it went, I looked at her and said, "You look better than you've ever looked before." I am deeply grateful for Dr. Tian's expertise, judgment, and willingness to perform a procedure that is not commonly done on someone with my surgical history.

From the moment I walked into the office of Near and Far I was greeted with professionalism and first class service. After my evaluation, they said I was a candidate and I had surgery that Thursday and the next day I could see better than I can remember. I am so lucky to have seen Dr. Tian for RLE surgery. I have worn very thick glasses all my life never thinking I would ever be glasses free. I am writing as a patient of Dr. Tian and from the context of being a primary health care provider myself. When I think of my experience with Dr. Tian, I am reminded of a book review I did in 1992 in my master of public health program called "Patient-Centered Healthcare." Dr. Tian embodies all the ideals and values of a patient-centered doctor and more - a rarity today. My case was very complex as I had a cataract with severe genetic astigmatism in both eyes that caused severe headaches, and I had many scars in my cornea left from RK eye surgery done in the early 90's. I was at-risk of not being able to drive again. My case was so severe, the computer would not make the eye calculations. He did not give up on me, but he went out of his way to manually calculate everything on his own time. It required two surgeries, but it was a great success! He educated me on his plan of action, treated me as a partner in shared decision-making, listened to and respected my fears and goals, and prepared me and calmed me down before every surgical cut and stitch. He called me every day post-op to check on me and even visited me in my home after a challenging second surgery. His compassion, sincerity, humility, and social etiquette reminds me of an enlightened monk. He walks the extra mile for his patients. This is something that yes is expensive but well worth it. If you are tired of not seeing up close or far away you should do this. The process is quick and painless and you will be able too see like when you were a kid. The staff is very helpful and the doctor does check on you alot to make sure your healing and things are going well for you. After your process is done its like a light switch where you had a hard time seeing to yes i can see and if you try to put readers on they are really blurry. Why would you not do it?
