My husband and I brought a brand-new eyeglass frame purchased in Japan from Kaneko Optical JR Hakata City to Klahanie Eye Care Center on December 22, 2025 for prescription lens installation -- the same morning we returned from Japan. We went in immediately because our annual vision insurance benefit was expiring on December 31, and we needed to complete the service as soon as possible before the benefit period ended.
The frame had been purchased just three days earlier (Dec 19, 2025) and was brand new.
At drop-off, we clearly told the staff member assisting us that:
* the frame was purchased overseas just days earlier
* it was difficult to replace
* it contained a plastic insert and required extra care during heating
We specifically asked that this be noted for the lab. We were told this would not be an issue, and based on that assurance, we proceeded.
Despite this, their outside lab permanently heat-damaged one side of the frame during mounting. The damage is uneven -- one side installed properly while the other is visibly warped -- which indicates localized overheating (a preventable workmanship error, not a material defect).
After the damage occurred, the business:
* refused monetary compensation
* offered only store credit under an "insurance" fee (this limitation was never disclosed before service)
* attempted to shift responsibility to a third-party lab
* minimized the damage by saying the frame was "still wearable"
* later claimed the frame was "old/used/out of warranty," which is factually false
We have since obtained reissued receipts, warranty proof, airline confirmation, and timestamped photos showing the frame was brand new and undamaged at drop-off. We also never spoke with the doctor who later responded to this claim -- he was not the person who assisted us that day -- so we don't know where the "used frame" story came from.
Most concerning: after knowingly accepting a brand-new, overseas-purchased, non-replaceable frame -- and confirming they could safely perform the service -- the business tried to shift responsibility onto us by saying lenses should only be installed where frames are originally purchased, or that the manufacturer should replace frames damaged by labs. That's unreasonable. They accepted the frame, assured us they could handle it, and proceeded.
We accepted reasonable risks like shipping loss or material defects. Negligent overheating during installation is not an unavoidable risk and should not be transferred to the customer.
Based on the workmanship, lack of disclosure, and how responsibility was handled afterward, we cannot recommend this business.
I have been to both the Issaquah - Klahanie and Bellevue - Lakemont locations of this clinic. From the assistants to the doctors, everyone is kind and professional. I get an eye exam every year, and the one I had here was the most comprehensive, careful, and detailed I've ever experienced.
My family and I usually visit this eye clinic for our annual vision checkups. However, this year, during my examination, I mentioned to the doctor that I had some concerns about my eyes. She took a quick look for about two minutes and assured me that everything was normal. But then, unexpectedly, I received a bill beyond the regular annual checkup cost. Normally, my vision exams are covered by insurance. Honestly, it's frustrating to pay extra fees that seem unnecessary. It leaves me wondering whether I can ask more questions during the annual checkup. Well, I guess the insurance company can be quite strict sometimes.
I visited Klahanie Eye Care Center in December 2014 for an eye exam and to buy some new frames. I was very pleased with every aspect of my experience. For my eye appointment, the doctor was on time and efficient, but without making me feel like she was rushing to see her next patient. The people were genuinely friendly, helpful, competent, and well versed in my insurance plan. The store is nice, conveniently located, and has an impressive selection of frames. Lyndsie assisted me with frames and lenses. She was exceptionally helpful and patient, and she helped me choose frames and lenses that suited my needs and budget, without trying to upsell me. Overall, I had one of the best experiences that I've ever had with *any* health care practitioner, and I recommend them without reservation.
I was looking for an eye doctor closer to home and my partner suggested I go to Klahanie Eye Care as he had just been there and had a good experience. I definitely made the right choice! The staff was extremely helpful in getting me registered and set up with an appointment. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of care, attention to detail, spent time with me to answer all my questions, and the overall friendliness of the entire staff. Dr. Erickson was wonderful! They also have a great selection of designer sunglasses and regular frames. I would highly recommended :)
I went once for an eye exam, waited over half an hour to see Dr Erickson. They used all sorts of fancy machines and even though I said do not do a refraction they did it anyway and tried to sell me glasses which I did not need. I had just had cataract surgery and did not need glasses for reading or driving.
They billed my insurance late and after a year told me I owed them $555 and that my insurance denied payment.
Actually my insurance told me they not only billed after 6 months of visit but they also overcharged me. Finally after an appeal my insurance paid some but not all due to over billing and told me I owed nothing. I have Medicare and United Health Care.
I just returned to my previous Opthamologist for an eye exam and the bill for service was $200. Enough said!!!
I visited Jennifer for an issue with my eye in March. I do not wear glasses, nor visit eyecare facilities ever. She was the most wonderful Dr to work with and provided me with so much information, recommendations, and amazing follow-up. Can't recommend her enough and would tell anyone dealing with eye issues to go into Klahanie Eye Care. Thank you!
Love the care I received here! I have been going to Klahanie eye care for several years. I just this year had an insurance change which lead me to have to seek care somewhere else. I ended up having a bad experience and so came back to Klahanie eye care. Even though they are not in my network I still prefer to come here as the care is excellent. I have seen all the doctors there over the years and they are all wonderful. In my last visit Dr. Jennifer Juang spent almost an hour with me answering all my questions and addressing my eye concerns - she is very kind and compassionate. At the other place I went to I was terrified and Dr. Juang explained to me very carefully about the health of my eyes and even preventative care and what I can do to keep my eyes healthy. It's always a great experience here. Everyone is super sweet too, the front desk people as well! I would highly recommend Dr. Juang to anyone and already have !
