I try to be fair here. I had an appointment with Cascade Vision in Renton on October 15th at 3:30 PM to get a prescription for eyeglasses. I told them that I had already been seen by a dry eye specialist about three months ago and even provided the specialist's contact information so they could access my records. I also clearly said that I only needed a prescription for glasses, nothing else.
They still told me they needed to repeat all the tests. I understand that some providers like to redo everything to bill insurance for additional procedures, but it honestly felt unnecessary and frustrating.
First, a technician took me in for pre-exams. She looked completely disengaged and didn't smile or show any friendliness the entire 40 minutes I was with her. She acted cold and robotic. During one of the tests, a visual field test using a headset and controller to check peripheral vision, I simply asked which button I should press. Instead of answering calmly, she snapped, saying she had already explained everything, and repeated it in a rude tone. It was uncomfortable, awkward, and felt like she didn't care at all about the patient experience.
Then, an intern doctor came in to perform additional tests. He started redoing dry eye testing, even though I told him I had already gone through that with a specialist recently. That test involves shining an extremely bright light directly into the eyes for several minutes while they examine the tear film and cornea. For anyone with dry eyes, this is very painful it causes intense burning, stinging, and constant tearing. After about five minutes, he realized he had missed a part and repeated it again for another few minutes, which was almost unbearable.
After that, the main doctor came in. She was kind, professional, and clearly experienced. Unfortunately, she noticed that some parts of the dry eye test were incomplete and had to repeat them again, meaning even more bright light, more burning, and more tearing. By this point, my eyes were red, irritated, and extremely sensitive to light. It felt excessive to go through the same painful test multiple times in a single visit, especially when I already had the results from a specialist.
By the time I left, my eyes were genuinely hurting, and I was exhausted and frustrated. It honestly felt like I was being treated more like a test subject than a patient. The doctors themselves were polite and seemed knowledgeable, which is the only reason I gave 3 stars instead of fewer, but the overall experience was unnecessarily repetitive, painful, and disappointing.
Patients shouldn't have to suffer through the same painful procedures multiple times just for routine checks or billing purposes, especially when the same tests were already completed and documented by a specialist only a few months earlier
Cascade vision is the best. It starts from the moment you make a phone call to the Renton office to the time you are waving good bye. The staff, doctors and eye glass selection and staff are top notch. We couldn't ask for more! Jim and Marianne C.
I chose Cascade because they accepted my insurance and were close to my home. The team are thorough, kind and efficient. The initial exam they do is extremely thorough, so be sure to give yourself at least an hour if you've not been there before. I felt like they covered all the important things I was concerned about for my eye health and more that I had not considered. Choosing glasses was extremely easy, their optometrist is efficient and thoughtful about what you're looking for. I have not yet received my glasses but I'm confident that will go just as smoothly.
