1. Steven has been doing our intake and all the glocoma testing. His "bedside" manner is wonderful. He carefully explains what he is about to do and is very patient. I can't say enough about his professionalism. People like Steven are the reason we keep coming back here.
2. We are sad to hear Dr. Hoyt is retiring. She has been our doctor for many years. She always is pleased to see us. Her exams are professional and efficient, but they never feel rushed. She does a good job of working with her assistants, collaborating with experienced people and mentoring newer people.
I was quite disappointed with my experience today for my mom's appointment who was already very nauseous for 1.5 hours of one side drive. Despite my best efforts to arrive on time from Kent, Seattle traffic caused a 5-minute delay beyond the arrival window. While I respect that the clinic has a schedule to maintain, I was hoping for a small amount of flexibility given the circumstances and the distance traveled. It was discouraging to be turned away after such a long commute. There was no effort made by front desk for helping and I was told that my slot is already given to someone else and doctor is booked for whole day now.
My question is, if I have an appointment how come within few min someone else was given a slot? And if someone with an appointment given a slot, then can they not accommodate me on freed up slot as I was willing to wait?
Appointment was Feb 5 2026 at 2:40pm.
I have been a patient at Eye Associates Northwest for several years. It has been my experience that everyone there is very knowledgeable and very courteous. My doctor always listens to my questions and concerns. The technicians are very well trained and eager to do their best. I have been very happy with the care I receive there.
I have been a patient of Eye Associates Northwest for many years, getting both contact and glasses exams, primarily at the Ballard and Northgate locations. Yesterday, I saw Dr. Johnson for the first time at the Northgate office for a contact lense fitting. From start to finish it was one of the best experiences I've had with this business. It was easy to make the appointment, the front desk staff were courteous, the assistant was businesslike and thorough, and Dr. Johnson was warm, friendly, honest and professional.
Nice facility and friendly staff in general! But I would focus on the doctor who served us, last name Hoyt. During our eye exam she didn't appear to have a very professional attitude. On at least two occasions during our visit while we were in the same room, she whispered to her helper commenting on our answers in not a friendly manner, thinking that we weren't listening. I don't know if she was having a stressful day or trying to impress her young helper but that doesn't justify her behavior.
Staff is accommodating, but there is no way to contact a doc if you have questions or concerns. They do not have a local phone. They use a call center in Nevada and get messages. No return call yet after three days. Tech and doctor give disparate information. Very disappointing. They used to be much more responsive .
Northgate location: I was glad they could get me in for a same day appt with an opthalmologist when I potentially had preseptal cellulitis infection around my eye. The doctor and staff were polite/respectful. I requested the healthcare providers wear masks with me and they did. However overall I didn't have a good experience at the Northgate location on that day. I wasn't brought back until 30 minutes after my appt time and my appt was at 9:50am. Kind of early to already be running 30 mins behind on appts.
Finally, I had follow up questions after my appt, because I was prescribed antibiotics yet was having signficant gut issues/reaction to them. I called the front desk and asked to get a message to the doctor. They said normally it takes 24-48 hours for patients to get a response, BUT because I was having gut issues this was flagged with the HIGHEST priority and I would get a quicker response. Well it's been 6 days and no one ever bothered to call me back at all! HORRIBLE SERVICE. I had to get into my PCP and get my prescriptions switched up because of the horrible reaction I had to the oral antibiotic and the neglect from this company failing to bother responding to a patient under their care.
Some poor guy was having a glasses fitting, and they have the desk where that is done set up literally in the middle of the waiting room! So we got to observe his entire appt of deciding fit, deciding what he could afford, what his insurance would cover, while the staff person assisting him spoke at an extremely loud volume about all of these details for everyone to hear. The guy literally was apologizing to everyone sitting in the waiting room all around him observing his appt, when honestly he is the one who should have been receiving an apology for the service he was receiving. He should have had a more private area off to the side and things like his insurance and finances should not have been discussed loudly in an open waiting room setting.
I have been to their First Hill location before and had a better experience, but I will never be back to Northgate.
Dr. Hoyt and her team make me feel like they are happy to see me. Everyone is not only professional but friendly and remember my name. Kelly is the best and is sincere with her greetings and remembers my wife's thank you paintings. A nice place for friendly professional eye care.
