We'd been seeing Dr. Carlson for my child for nearly ten years, and he is very polite and professional. I'm super grateful that he accepted Medicaid (not sure if it's true now) during my difficult time. Otherwise, I would've given 0 star.
I don't have many complaints about the eye clinic, although they clearly treat you differently depending on how much you are paying. If you are paying out of pocket for a program that insurance doesn't cover, instead of getting only basic services covered by insurance (like Apple Health), I am sure your child gets to choose a free toy (cheap ones, but it's still something to a child). Scheduling an appointment is tough. You have to wait a few months to see a doctor, or a resident/student optometrist will be assigned to your child. That being said, I feel those are understandable. Anyway, we are human beings with different values.
The reason I wanted to write this review is actually about their eyeglass store, Optical Solutions. With the same quality, their frames and lenses are much more expensive than those of other businesses. They have you pay up front, even before they figure out what insurance will cover. Unfortunately, some of the assistants cannot read or understand the insurance benefits plan.
A couple of weeks ago, I ordered eyeglasses for my child. The assistant spent much time reading the insurance statements again and again, but couldn't understand what was covered or not. Eventually, he got me to pay $280. The next day, I felt somewhat uncomfortable and verified with insurance about the coverage (My bad, didn't check on the spot). My gut feeling was right, and I ended up getting $150 refund.
I also noticed that they charged me $130 upfront for transition last year. Interestingly, the insurance company reimbursed them for the full cost of the glasses. That is, they overcharged $130, and never gave me (or maybe insurance) back the balance. This is not a crazy large amount, but something is certainly wrong.
If you really want to or have to use their services, I would recommend being aware of the "tricks" they play on you.
I have gone to Optical Solutions for several years. The staff is always very friendly. I recently worked with Phoebe. She assessed each pair of frames throughly for a proper fit. Phoebe asked what I wanted in a frame. I must of tried on at the 15 frames Finally I discovered the perfect frame with the advice and encouragement of Phoebe. I would recommend that you should ask for her. April M
Dr is great, but I 100% would not recommend optical solutions. When they ordered my daughter's contacts, something got messed up. We received more boxes with the L eye prescription than the R eye (delivered directly). I contacted Optical Solutions to try to rectify the situation (since contacts are over $1k/year and I didn't want to pay even more when we ran out early). The "manager" was incredibly rude, denied that an error could have been made (despite showing her photos)--I offered to GIVE them the spare 80-contact boxes, in an effort to balance them out. She accused me of lying and suggested that I was "illegally selling" contact lenses and that's why the number was off. Ultimately, we returned 180 contacts and received 80 in return (at $1.50 per lens, we actually lost $ in this "trade"), so we could make do until our next appointment at a new doctor.
My daughter was learning to use contacts for the first time. Phoebe was able to make this a fun and relaxed process, while relating a simple step by step method. She was very thorough and gave clear, easy instructions so that my daughter was successfully able to insert and remove her new contacts quickly. An appointment I dreaded turned into a very positive experience!
I brought in some frames to have glasses made here. When I called to check about things, the man who answered was extremely helpful and kind. When I went in person to drop off my frames and pick them up, staff were wonderful to work with. When my prescription changed they went above and beyond to help me. The people working here are doing a great job and I appreciate their hard work.
I got my new glasses here and everything was good and the staffs were nice. During the weekend I tried my new glasses on and realized because the glasses have no nose pads so they kept sliding down.
I didn't know that would be the case because I never had those kinds ( with no nose pads ) before
So I took them back and wanted to get another new glasses frame. I was assisted by a young girl in the end she told me she needed to let me know I was advised not to get those glasses that have no nose pads but I insisted on getting them despite the advise "because it was the cheapest" . She told me they will only let me do it this one time for the curtesy.
I told them I understood but I didn't get advised like she mentioned last time. Also she wasn't the one that help me got the glasses frame so I'm not sure how she can just magically knew exactly what happened as if she was there watching me.
Literally I didn't "insist" on getting any particular one only because "it was the cheapest" , I chose what I chose because I asked the staff's advise on what looked better and also I wanted to get a lighter one than my old one ( my old one was big, heavy and kind of broken) and I was also struggled to choose a new one because I like the look of a lot of them even the expensive ones.
It was rude and unprofessional the way she just made it all my fault and then constantly mentioning to me that I shouldn't have gotten the one with no nose pads. I told her I also didn't know and I've never had those kinds ( with no nose pads ) before, then she responded: now you know girl. And then repeated again that ( the who knows how many times she already did during the time I was getting another new frame ) I was advised not to get them but I chose not to listen. ( again I didn't. And how would anyone know that would be the case if they never have that problem before? It was just purely an unfortunate accident. It was not like I just constantly switching glasses frame with no good reasons )
If she just mentioned once because that was the rule then I get it. But no, she was constantly repeating the same thing to make sure I know it's a bad thing I tried to change my frame and it's totally my fault because I refused to listen even though that was so not the true of what she said about the situation at all.
I probably would have actually felt bad if that girl was not being this rude, but now I just feel bad for myself for choosing the wrong place to get glasses.
Not that they will care but I for sure will never go back to them again after I get this new pair of glasses I already paid for.
We came here to look at glasses. They have a decent selection and the glasses seem to be good quality. The ones we looked at were around $300 a pair. The staff was nice, they were helpful but not pushy and let you do your own thing. Glasses are sanitized after each try on, which is thoughtful. We didn't purchase here but we may go back.
I visited the store to discuss advanced lenses, but unfortunately, the staff didn't seem knowledgeable enough to answer my questions or provide me with suitable options. It was disappointing that they didn't make an effort to understand my needs or secure my business.
