We'd been seeing Dr. Carlson for my child for nearly ten years, and he is very polite and professional. I'm super grateful that he accepted Medicaid (not sure if it's true now) during my difficult time. Otherwise, I would've given 0 star.
I don't have many complaints about the eye clinic, although they clearly treat you differently depending on how much you are paying. If you are paying out of pocket for a program that insurance doesn't cover, instead of getting only basic services covered by insurance (like Apple Health), I am sure your child gets to choose a free toy (cheap ones, but it's still something to a child). Scheduling an appointment is tough. You have to wait a few months to see a doctor, or a resident/student optometrist will be assigned to your child. That being said, I feel those are understandable. Anyway, we are human beings with different values.
The reason I wanted to write this review is actually about their eyeglass store, Optical Solutions. With the same quality, their frames and lenses are much more expensive than those of other businesses. They have you pay up front, even before they figure out what insurance will cover. Unfortunately, some of the assistants cannot read or understand the insurance benefits plan.
A couple of weeks ago, I ordered eyeglasses for my child. The assistant spent much time reading the insurance statements again and again, but couldn't understand what was covered or not. Eventually, he got me to pay $280. The next day, I felt somewhat uncomfortable and verified with insurance about the coverage (My bad, didn't check on the spot). My gut feeling was right, and I ended up getting $150 refund.
I also noticed that they charged me $130 upfront for transition last year. Interestingly, the insurance company reimbursed them for the full cost of the glasses. That is, they overcharged $130, and never gave me (or maybe insurance) back the balance. This is not a crazy large amount, but something is certainly wrong.
If you really want to or have to use their services, I would recommend being aware of the "tricks" they play on you.
Dr.Andrews and staff were great. I believe I was checked in by Amanda, who was very nice, a great listener, and explained everything about the check-in. Dr.Andrews was very helpful and thorough, taking her time to address all my questions. I got my script right then & there. Irrelevant to me, they had a kiddie area with tv and toys- they offer child and adult exams, child glasses, but refer out for frames for adults.
Wow! Not only were they in network but...
Thorough testing.
Clear concise information.
Friendly staff and atmosphere
Timely, and all with really good energy. I'll definitely will be back and have already referred friends
We loved our first experience here ! They were so kind and welcoming and patient with my toddler. There were toys in the room for her to play with and they were very good with her for her very first appointment. Very pleased !
Our entire family has been to Puget Sound Eye Care multiple times and it has always exceeded our expectations. We see Dr. Andrews and she is fantastic. She is not rushed and takes the time to explain things to us. She is very knowledgeable about the latest developments on treatments and products. She does a great job explaining the pros & cons and how appropriate they are for our specific situation. It is great going to a place for eye care that is more than just an eye exam.
When it comes to eyewear / glasses, Phoebe Hui is absolutely fantastic. Her time with you is not just about what does the frame look like. She really takes the time to understand the circumstances of how each person uses their eyewear because it really can differ and there are many options now available in terms of lens material and construction. Phoebe builds a relationship with her clients. Having that historical context is very helpful as our eyes evolve.
I've been bringing my disabled daughter to them for most of her life & she's also had eye Surgery. They have been very good at using unconventional ways to check her eyesight. We usually go the the Seattle location but my daughter needed to be seen urgently so we went to the Bellevue location.
I came here for a routine annual eye exam and ended up with an unexpected charge that I was never clearly told would cost extra. I only found out about this "extra" diagnostic test when the bill arrived. When I disputed the charge, the billing department repeatedly pointed to generic forms I signed at check-in, instead of acknowledging that there was no specific verbal disclosure that this test would generate an additional out-of-pocket cost. They refused to adjust the charge as a courtesy, even though I made it clear I would have declined the test if the cost had been explained.Patients should be clearly told, in plain language, when something during a "routine" exam is optional and will result in extra charges. I won't be returning and would urge others to ask very specific questions about costs before agreeing to any additional testing here.
Opted for retinal scan package thinking it would replace the need for pupil dilation. Wasn't told the recommended package was in addition to dilation so opted not to have the latter. The front desk should include all of this information. Also, clinic was very disorganized. Arrived 20 minutes before my appointment time, was brought back 15 minutes late, did initial retinal scanning, brought into a room for more tech assessments, couldn't stay in the room as it's "the one kept open" and returned to lobby, then brought back and seen by provider. Overall, was in the clinic for more than 1.5 hours. Will return but this was really frustrating. That said, eyeglass staff helping with PD measurement was really nice.
