Dr. Velasquez and his staff are very caring and helpful. I will have my cataract removed by Dr. Velasquez on 3/16. I have the utmost confidence in him. He removed my uncle's cataracts in 2010. My mom was also a patient of Dr. Velasquez. Two thumbs up! Thank you for your kindness and expertise.
I'm very disappointed in my last visit which ended up being the last time I will ever go to AVC. I have been seeing Dr. Bartlett at AVCZ for a number of years and he has removed my cataracts and done my eye exams every year for vision and for a medication that I am on. Last year, I did not need new glasses as the prescription I had was working. After I was brought back and part of the exam was done by the tech, I was just talking with her and mentioned that I definitely needed a prescription for new glasses this time because my glasses had broken. That's when I was informed there would be a $55.00 charge for the doctor to write the prescription for my glasses!!! And I explained to the tech that I have Medicare Advantage Duel Plan with Medicsid and I have no deductibles or co-pays and she said they were billing mine under medical because of the medication check up and I was seeing the MD. I explained that I had always seen the same doctor for the same exact exams and never had this charge. She left the room and a little while later came back with this 81/2x11 sheet of paper printed and said they were just about to post this which stated that all Medicare and medicaid patients would be required to pay a $55. Fee for a eyeware prescription when seeing an ophthalmologist. That sign was not posted when I came in nor was I called or texted or emailed about this. I told them to forget it. Just finish my eye exam and I would go elsewhere for my glasses, and this would be the last time they would see me, and that I will let everyone know how they treat their patients, so, I am letting Medicare and Medicaid patients beware!!!! Oh, and in order to see the Dr this time, i had to go out and down another hall and sit and wait again. I was not happy being worked through like a herd of cattle. I will not be going back.
I recently had LASIK surgery with Dr. Velazquez at Alabama Vision Center, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. The facility is very nice and clean, and the entire staff was welcoming. Dr. V was incredibly friendly, took the time to answer all of my questions, and made me feel comfortable even though I was initially nervous.
After just 24 hours and a good night's sleep, my vision had already improved to my satisfaction. Now, 3 days post-surgery, I've had little to no issues--honestly, my eyes were more uncomfortable when I wore contacts!
I only wish I had done this sooner. I 100% recommend Dr. V and Alabama Vision Center if you're considering LASIK. Life-changing experience!
Physician not very friendly, somewhat unapproachable. Did not like us questioning certain aspects of care. Tech did the refraction....physician exam less than 5 minutes. Made us feel very anxious re: decline in my husband's vision as if it required urgent treatment but wanted us to secure old records rather than have his office request them from former provider & Callahan Eye Hospital. We elected to return to former ophthalmologist for 2nd opinion & continuation of care since he was more familiar with my husbands history ( the ONLY reason we had changed was because of proximity to our home.) After seeing our former physician, it was so reassuring to find out that there had been very little change in my husbands eyesight, his vision was actually 20/30 in his good eye rather than 20/80 and the only recommendation was the addition of an OTC eye drop. Will not return nor recommend Dr.V.
As far as the facility on 119, the parking lot is a maze & difficult to navigate as nothing is mark
After a lot of careful thought and consideration I have decided to go public about my experience with this eye doctor.
Back in January of 2023 I made an appointment to see Dr. Jessica Duddleston to have a routine eye exam. I was a first time patient at this clinic and choose to try it out since it was not far from my house. Everything seemed fine until I went to have my new eye glass prescription made and immediately was not seeing correctly. I made a follow up appointment with Dr. Duddleston's staff the next day and discovered that they had wrote me the wrong prescription. A new prescription was written and I traveled back to have my eye glasses remade but once again the new prescription was wrong. I then reached back out to the clinic to schedule a third eye exam to determine what was wrong. I met with Dr. Duddleston personally on the third visit and explained my vision was off in the right eye but she insisted that there was nothing wrong with the prescription. It was then that I decided it was necessary to seek a second opinion to determine what was wrong. I found a nearby licensed and certified Optometrist to perform the exam and attempted to have my medical records transferred over to her office but Dr. Duddleston and her staff never complied with the transfer request even though all procedures were followed.
When I went to get a second opinion it was very quickly discovered that Dr. Duddleston and her staff had under minused me by three quarters of a percent in the right eye. Dr. Duddleston was then notified that a second opinion had been obtained and the results of that examination were shared with her. However, Dr. Duddleston took no personal or professional responsibility for it despite the overwhelming evidence that proved otherwise. Furthermore, Dr. Duddleston made serveral attempts during that conversation to minimize, obfuscate and mislead me about the results of the second doctor's opinion when it had become very clear by that point that Dr. Duddleston had engaged in medical malpractice.
I attempted to contact and notify the head of Alabama Vision Center, Dr. Price Kloess on May 3, 2023 about the malpractice and professional misconduct of Dr. Jessica Duddleston and her staff through his administrative assistant, Ashley Bonds. However, miss Bonds refused to discuss the matter with me by not returning my phone call and no attempt was ever made by Dr. Price Kloess to contact me about it in spite of my request for him to do so. I am therefore warning any future patients to strongly reconsider using this clinic or Doctor. I wasted months of my time and money to get something straightened out that should of never been a problem to begin with.
The eye exam for my Mom went well, but scheduling her cataract surgery has turned into a disaster. First, she was scheduled to have surgery at Shelby Ambulatory Surgery. They called the day before the procedure and canceled because of insurance. We had asked the doctors office a week before to obtain a prior authorization as requested by the Ambulatory Surgery Center. Insurance says they never received one. I called and asked to reschedule my Mother's surgery for the following week as she has already filled her medication. NO ONE ever calls me back. We are at this point still calling trying to get them to give us an answer. This is outrageous. Not only will my Mother not be using them anymore they have now lost my business as well.
My eye exam was with Dr. Holly Young. She and her staff explained the testing procedures as we moved along. Everyone in the office was kind and very helpful. I really like that I could fill out my patient info using the patient portal prior to my appointment. It saved me time at the office and I could ensure the information I entered was accurate.
Dr Bartlett was great to take time with me to go over and explain everything! He did not act rushed and he asked if I had any questions. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. That's the way my Husband and I want to be treated. Dr Bartlett will be our eye Dr from here forward!
