The best eye doctor I've ever been to in my entire life. They're very thorough and consistent and I'm a type 1 diabetic so I have to have my eyes checked frequently and regularly.
Had my eye scratched (6mm length), intense pain that would not yield for hours on end. I was 3 hours away on vacation by car trip. Called them up and they were able to do a quick visit same day when I got back to the bay area. I got the medication needed which took the pain away and Dr Decanay gave me a few options for treatment. We went with the lubricate that I put in my eye a few times a day and after about the 11th day I had no more issues or discomfort. I continued for about 30 days total. Less than a year later I cant even remember which eye was scratched.
After undergoing an unnecessary procedure that I was convinced to have, I've been left with vision issues, specifically seeing "rainbows" in the eye that was treated. These problems emerged only after the laser surgery and were not present before.
I missed my follow-up appointment due to unforeseen circumstances, and now the clinic is charging me for the next appointment. I don't believe this is fair, given the complications I'm experiencing. Despite calling to explain my situation and the issues with the treated eye, Dave, the staff member I spoke with, was unhelpful and unsympathetic. He refused to schedule an appointment without charge, even though follow-up care should be part of the procedure's aftercare.
Valencia, on the other hand, was professional and courteous, contrasting sharply with Dave's demeanor. It's disheartening that I am now stuck with eye damage without assistance or guidance unless I pay an additional $200 on top of the $800-$900 already spent.
Leonardo Dacanay is so kind and patient. It's the greatest eyes doctor i have ever met. He is cute and easy to communicate with. Thanks you for helping me get through problems.
Dr. Dacanay is an exceptional ophthalmologist with outstanding technical skills and caring chairside manner. He doesn't talk AT you, he discusses WITH you and LISTENS to you. If you find a doctor this good, keep him forever. I wouldn't trust my eyes to anyone else.
Dr. Dacanay literally saved my life & my vision in 2009 when he was still a doctor in Everett, WA. I've been searching for him to thank him for a very long time. Dr. Dacanay is extremely knowledgeable and was the only doctor (out of many) who was actually able to diagnose me with the rare condition that I had. While other doctors were prescribing pain pills just to get me in & out of their office quickly, Dr. Dacanay actually listened, paid attention, and was very thorough. I can't thank him enough for the care that I received.
I have Glaucoma and my eye pressure is 20 over 20. I had laser surgery in June, and after one month, my eye pressure is down to 15 for both eyes! This is really good, and the Doctor is a very nice person!
My mom usually goes to another Doctor in a different office, but I am so happy with Dr. Dacanay's services that I switched her over. Now she is a patient in the same office as me. Glaucoma runs in my family, my mother has it too, so I am very happy to have found a doctor who I can trust and believe in his performances.
He predicts that the pressure will continually decrease, and I am optimistic with the results.
Thank you Dr. Dacanay!
I had an appointment scheduled in a few days, but then they called to squeeze me in from the waiting list with an hour's notice. The person who called provided billing information that I found questionable, and which turned out to be incorrect. Then she transferred me to the accounts person who kept whining about how the simple arithmetic was "very confusing", then to the manager who said she didn't really know what the bill would be, that's up to Medicare and the first person didn't have any authority to volunteer billing information. I said if they had carried out what she told me it would have been fraudulent to which she said there was no intent to defraud Medicare. So I said then it's incompetence, which she said she couldn't accept. I then said her inability to accept incompetent actions by an employee is itself incompetent. She cancelled my appointment because, she said, I'd used inappropriate language. Bureaucrats really hate that word, incompetent.
The issue was about how much I would pay in advance of treatment vs how much they could collect from Medicare. The math is simple but once I began asking questions the interaction became so difficult I have to wonder if there is a history there of difficult patient interactions regarding payment. However I believe the treatment I was subjected to may be because they find Medicare billing and reimbursement rates a burden they would rather not have to deal with at all.
I gather from other reviews that the doctor himself is highly skilled. So they are probably trying to juggle appointments constantly to fit people in. There simply aren't enough good doctors. The result is assembly line medicine. However my understanding is that the medical profession itself regulates the number of doctors who can practice specifically to keep their rates up, so money grubbing may in fact be an issue here. I've been to three other opthalmologists since, a first and second opinion, and now am seeing a specialist all billable to Medicare. None of them have required payment of any Medicare deductible in advance, let alone the full yearly amount these people tried to demand from me for a first visit, and then canceled my appointment when I questioned that practice.
