I love visiting this office! I have terrible eyesight, but I've never had a terrible experience when going to Dr. Nyssen's office. Dr. Nyssen himself is a kind, welcoming, and professional optometrist, and I have been his patient for several years. We have engaging and interesting conversations during the appointments, so I always feel safe and comfortable while having my eyes checked. Every prescription, whether for glasses or contacts, has worked amazingly for me. He taught me everything I needed to know regarding contacts when I started getting into combat sports, and wearing contacts have helped me immensely. I'm also looking into possibly having lasik eye surgery done whenever my eyes stabilize, and Dr. Nyssen has been incredibly knowledgeable and helpful for equipping me with what to expect if I ever qualify for the surgery. As for his staff, I've always had a pleasant experience when interacting with them, whether it be for scheduling or picking out a new frame for glasses. I highly recommend Dr. Nyssen's office for anyone who is looking for an optometrist!

Unlike most reviewers, this is my first time to Dr. Nyssen's practice. Dr. Nyssen combines professionalism with a comforting presence. When I woke up with eye troubles and spotted a worrisome white spot on my cornea, I embarked on a quest to find a nearby optometrist. Fortunately, his office was conveniently located near my home, though it was not open at the time. In a time-sensitive situation, I visited his office the next morning, despite the fully booked schedule. The staff, understanding the urgency, managed to squeeze me in, and I was more than willing to wait. Dr. Nyssen took me under his care promptly. In the examination room, he meticulously assessed my condition. His thorough examination included vision checks, comparisons between my affected eye and the other, and a fluorescein eye stain test. It seemed I had a marginal corneal ulcer, potentially bacterial. Dr. Nyssen prescribed an antibiotic eye drop, which I could conveniently pick up at my preferred pharmacy. He also scheduled a follow-up appointment just two days later, going the extra mile by sharing his personal cell number in case my condition worsened. & measured my eye pressure at the end of the examination. Throughout the visit, Dr. Nyssen never rushed, even with another patient waiting. I would normally not do walk-ins if I could help it, but my situation required immediate attention, and he understood that. Thanks to diligent use of the antibiotic eye drops every three hours, my eye improved significantly and rapidly. By the end of the second day, I estimated a 60% recovery. At the follow-up visit, Dr. Nyssen conducted the standard vision test, dye test, and pressure assessment. He reported that my eye had progressed to approximately 80% recovery. The white spot on the cornea was fading, and the redness had nearly vanished. He instructed me to contact him once the white spot disappeared completely, and provided guidance on tapering off the antibiotic eye drops via email. In summary, my encounter with Dr. Nyssen was marked by professionalism, compassion, and effective treatment. Will probably recommend my mom visit here instead of Costco for her glasses or exams. He accepts VSP and eyemed, $100 for no insurance exams. Since my situation was medical, I don't think the vision insurance would have covered it anyway, anthem bluecross medi-cal covered my prescription though.

Using professionals is hit or miss. You just don't really know how good they are. Even other reviews sometimes are misleading. Going on record here to tell you that Dr Nyssen and his team are exceptional. After getting annual eye exams and glasses for the last decade, it wasn't until I started using my prescription from Dr Nyssen that I realized there are truly gifted Optometrists. He picked up on conditions that changed my prescription and has guided me over the last two years to optimize my sight. I use contacts and can see very well -- for the first time ever. Other optometrists said I'd have to settle for less. Don't do it! See Dr Nyssen instead.

He's nothing short of amazing......a kind professional who makes you feel super comfortable while he's checking one of your most critical sensory organs.He does not put unnecessary subtle pressure to get glasses just because. Very impressed and would recommend him in a heartbeat!

Giving three stars, first experience back 2020 was phenomenal and doctor Jan Nyssan was amazing. I moved out of the area and returned to San Jose. Needing a check up and wanting to order a new pair I called to schedule. Was able to get an appointment the same week (amazing). Upon showing up for my scheduled meeting, 10 minutes early as well, I was told that nothing was scheduled (quite frustrating to hear that). After waiting for a few minutes I was told they can squeeze me in (Not too bad). The receptionist then was having issues looking me up in the system only to be told that they don't cover my specific policy from my vision provider. What makes it even more frustrating is that I asked specifically if they take my provider over the phone and it was confirmed they do. Overall due to the lack of communication and recording I will not be returning nor recommending services to anyone I know.

I have been going to Dr Nyssen for at least 18 years and he and the staff are the best. They go out of their way to ensure the best customer service.

I had an appointment with Dr. Jan for the first time yesterday. I've been looking up best optometrists in the area. Based on the reviews, I decided I want to have my eye exam and a general checkup on my eyes here. And wow!! I'm very happy I landed here. I can't describe how amazing, knowledgeable, friendly, and intelligent Dr. Jan is. Dr. Jan will explain to you everything thoroughly, he will answer your questions, and he will also give you great tips to take care of your eyes. My experience here was outstanding. The staff were all amazing, eyeglasses and sunglasses collection is nice. I ended up purchasing new sunglasses and I'm super excited about them! No wonder the 5 stars reviews, if I can give 10 I would! Thanks, Dr. Jan for the exceptional experience!

I have been coming to Dr Nyssen since I was 13 years old. He is a small family owned practice that cares about his patients as human beings and goes absolutely above and beyond to meet everyone's expectations. Wonderful human being and outstanding doctor.
