I've been going to Dr. Hamada and Surf City for over 30 years. The equipment used is very advanced which gives me confidence the exams and prescribe eyewear is state of the art. I'd rather drive the 20-25 minutes than go to an office in my immediate area.

Really cool experience. All the people there are funny and nice. The doctor was amazing. She helped make the appointment go by fast with speaking in a way that I can understand what's happening with my eyes. But what really made it was the guy that helped me get my glasses. He explained everything to me and helped me pick the right frames for my face. I will definitely be telling all my friends to come here to get their eyes checked.

I had a disappointing experience at Surf City Optometry. I was given incorrect information about my glasses frame and ordering, and during my exam the doctor confused me with another patient and shared inaccurate eye information. Additionally, the office refunded my December 2025 exams and then withheld my prescription, resulting in a loss of my 2025 benefits and forcing me to use my 2026 exam despite just being seen. Overall, this raised concerns about communication and handling of patient care, and I would not return or recommend this office.

4/25/25 Went in to buy a screw for a pair of glasses. Quoted $5 if they could find one that fits.
17 MINUTES, 2 STAFF later - they return the glasses with a bent screw installed.
I had told them clearly when they showed me the glasses with the too long screw in it that I could cut off the excess in a second at home with a Dremel for a perfect length, but Noooo, they insisted they had the Tools, then bent the tip like that to make it a harder job to Dremel at home.
And they had the gall to say that they stopped because they might be applying TOO much stress on the frame using their way.
Seriously?!
Is everyone an idiot? The proper way is to mark the length to cut off, remove the screw, cut it off with no stress at all on the frame, file smooth, then reinstall.
For a mechanical guy like me, not a problem to cut it. But seriously, is this the level of service they'd also give others walking in for 1 missing screw after waiting 17 minutes???
