Kato & Shoji Optometrists - Kapahulu Office

Best optometrist i've ever had. Dr Kato is patient, understanding, and will listen to what you need. He didn't push me into any product and cared to hear about my lifestyle to fit a pair of contacts to it. The admin is extremely nice and friendly. And they never kept me waiting when I had acheduled time. Very respectful and professional! Would recommend!

Called the office for an emergency issue a few months back because I had an eye infection suddenly. But I use 1 year contact wear but because of the infection I was not able to use it anymore and had to call for my prescription so I could get new contacts for the time being before I go in for another prescription check. I've visited DR. Kato before and so has my mom. I asked if they could email me the prescription and the first lady said yes and was very nice about it. Waited for about an hour and didn't receive the email so I called again to check up. Someone else answered the phone but immediately when I asked about it she proceeded to say that they were busy and made it seem like it was an inconvenience or as if I had been spamming them when I had just asked if there was an error with the email I provided them. She then told me after that she can't give it to me since it needs to be verified with the doctor which I understand but proceeded to tell me after that they didn't have any history of my data on file. Just seems a little petty and could've been communicated better between the staff if they can or can't do it rather than give an attitude to a customer that is in a tough situation. DR. Kato is very nice and attentive though so its a little disappointing just because the reception staff can't choose their words better now I don't think I'll go back because of the lack of consideration for their customers on the receptions side. Also, never got the email anyway

Highly recommended ! Nicest experience and super professional service here. It's our first day on the island and we forgot contact lenses at home, the staff gave us free samples and helped us like we are paying customers. Customers here look very happy and well attended to. Would definitely come back for any optometry need.

These guys are extremely helpful and professional. I forgot my daily contacts at home, just to figure it out a few days before going snorkelling... They are also well-stocked, my prescription is not that common. Simply saved the day! Thank you!

Staff is very friendly. Lots of parking and easy to get to.

One of my wife's new contacts tore while we were on vacation and unfortunately we didn't pack any extras. The optometrists here were incredibly nice and provided a replacement trial contact since we had her prescription faxed over. Highly recommend this business for anyone in the area!

We were on vacation here and my son lost his glasses in the ocean on the first day we were here. We called a large number of optometrists on the island to see if a replacement pair could be made and got an average of 2 week time-frame from most of them. Kato & Shoji were the only ones we talked with that were willing to go through the effort of having lenses made and expedited to us and had him in a new pair of glasses within 48 hours. This really meant a lot to him as it was his first trip here and couldn't imagine how it would be like being on vacation without your glasses. These guys literally saved my son's vacation from being ruined. I cant say enough positive things about this experience and am thankful that they were around and the professional service we received. They knew that we wouldn't be repeat customers since we don't live here but they went through a lot of effort for us as visitors. To me, the people that work here are good ambassadors of this state as they went through a lot of effort to help a tourist out when most others we called only had the blanket "there's nothing we can do" response. My dailies were destroyed during the trip to Oahu. Had problems finding my prescription and type on island. Contacted these incredibly nice people, and they did their best to help me out of a jam. Top notch. Much Mahalo!
