We have had two children in with Dr. Martin for vision therapy and she is a wealth of knowledge and truly wants your children to get better. She is personable and easy to be around and always answers your questions. I was super hesitant to start with her and had a lot of questions before we started the program and she didn't make me feel dumb for all the information I was seeking. She's someone who I think is so cool I would want to hang with her outside the office. She knows what she's doing and is constantly seeking ways to be even better.
Our child has seen tremendous improvement in all areas of his life (hand eye coordination, fine motor, gross motor, attention, reading and confidence) as a result of Academy of Vision Development. He's been going for 5 months and has made more progress than in 5 years of doing PT & OT. He had 20/20 vision & an ophthalmologist saw no concern, but Dr. Martin instantly identified retained primitive reflexes & eye tracking issues. The treatment & activities are fun and engaging. I would highly recommend at least a screen for anyone who recognizes their child may have sensory processing issues, be termed by teachers as "wiggly", has poor posture, body awareness issues, transposes letters, slow reader, or is on an IEP.
We are incredibly grateful for Dr. Angela Martin, Chad, and the entire team at the Academy for Vision Therapy here in King, Michigan. After our son was hit by a car and suffered extensive damage to his eyes, multiple surgeries, and years of exercises, we were unsure how much improvement was still possible.
Since working with Dr. Martin and Chad, our son has made remarkable progress through vision therapy, behavioral eye therapy, and light therapy. He has gained more peripheral, upper, and lower vision, improved stability in his core and balance, and shown meaningful improvements in emotional regulation and reasoning related to his compulsive disorder. We truly believe the light therapy has helped his brain form stronger neural pathways.
Our experience has been overwhelmingly positive. Dr. Martin and Chad are compassionate, knowledgeable, and truly dedicated to their patients. Their care has gone beyond vision alone and has supported our son's overall neurological and functional growth. We highly recommend the Academy for Vision Therapy to any family seeking advanced, thoughtful, and life-changing care.

We were referred to Academy of Vision Development from a friend who had great success with both her son's. We started with our son and Angela and Chad have been such a amazing team and have helped my son so much. We still have work to do but im so thankful for them and all they have done so far. Excited to keep watching my sons vision improve.
My son started therapy at age 9. It has made a HUGE difference in his ability see, read, and complete his school work. It has also made a huge difference in his ability to regulate ADHD. We had already tried a regular eye doctor and they said he was fine. But I knew there was something wrong. He has stopped rubbing his eyes and complaining of head aches all the time too. I highly recommend getting your child checked out!
Dr. Martin is a knowledgeable and experienced practitioner, she doesn't just go through the motions of a regular eye exam that you would get somewhere else. I came in for a routine eye exam and she noticed I was seeing double. I didn't even know this about myself! I've had glasses since I was in 2nd grade and no other ophthalmologist has ever mentioned that.
We started seeing Dr. Martin about a year ago when my son began vision therapy. While he was in vision therapy Dr. Martin said she was going to be purchasing a optometric multisensory training table. Once she had the OMST table we received a call and were offered to start this treatment. The OMST has been life changing for our son. He has ADHD, mild cognative impairment and other medical conditions. Since completeing OMST he has more indepth conversations, he's more social, He's doing better in school, AND he has been able to start reading!!! OMST is an upfront cost to the patient, but there's a good chance it could be reimbursed by medical insurance.
In 2018, our son (3rd grade) started vision therapy after a recommendation from BRAINS upon receiving a "nonverbal learning disability" diagnosis. It was recommended that we receive another evaluation from a vision therapist. We are SO thankful that we did.
Generally speaking, our son was unable to process information that he was taking in. As a result, he was becoming defiant, falling behind at school and seemed confused with athletics, even with his strong athletic skills. He was not in control of his thoughts or his body, which impacted peer relationships.
He was also diagnosed with Convergence Insufficiency, making it painful for him to read. He had always struggled with reading and it was generally a fight to get him to do his nightly reading. He complained, claimed he had headaches, avoided, rolled around, etc.
Within 6 weeks of therapy, we started to see a difference in his behavior. The defiance had completely disappeared. He was more attentive in school, spending time with friends and things were clicking in athletics again. Reading was no longer a fight and he no longer complained of headaches. After approximately 14 months of therapy, he was a new kid!
He is now a junior in high school and thriving. We were talking over the weekend about how differently things would have been for him without the help of Dr. Martin. He is successful in school with meaningful peer relationships. He is kind, funny, works hard and has the ability to focus on school, employment and athletics.
We will ALWAYS be grateful to Dr. Martin and her staff for what she did for our son and our family!
