The optometrist was very pleasant to work with and was very patient with me. Unfortunately, I left the office feeling pretty disappointed that when I was finally ready to get my color contact lenses the lady only gave me one contact for one eye. When I came back in the office after recognizing that she only gave me one contact lens, I explained to her that I wanted a contact lens for the other eye so that I could see what the color lens would look like for both eyes and she rolled her eyes and told me no. I think I'm only writing this review because I was also charged $80 for them to teach me how to put in my contacts; which I could've done on my own, but I still reluctantly paid the $80 to learn how to put in a contact, yet you still won't give me a contact lens for the other eye? Unfortunately, I do not think I'm gonna be ordering my contact lenses at this location. It's a little embarrassing and uncomfortable to only get one contact lens for one eye when you're trying to decide what direction you wanna go before making an expensive purchase on color contact lenses.
I love Dr Beninger, He cares! I have been a patient of Dr Benniger's, since my children were young over 30 years ago. He was the doctor for all three of them. My husband and I are both now patients. He is caring and personable, yet professional. He gives ample time for questions. He also shares other useful health information. Today 7-27-2020 I am disappointed with office we have been going to since our children were Young and my oldest is 39. Most of the patients are seniors now and to charge for something that is required by law due to Covid 19, we are all required and need to do this. It seems unfair to me. I couldn't believe it until my husband sent the picture. I thought surely he was mistaken. I love this office but I don't agree with this.
Visited to see if they could fix my vintage German sunglasses that had a bent frame and the lenses out.
Left :10 minutes later with fixed glasses, staff was amazing!
Exam was great, eye doctor was fantastic. Super personable, great to talk to, explained every little detail. But then the optometrist charged $10 to get my PD read, and what she gave me was pretty far off from what I have had previously, and what the doctor said my PD was based on the auto-refractor. I asked her to recheck, and I got a different number, still not what I'm used to or what the doctor said. I'm going elsewhere to get this verified, but charging $10 for a PD reading is absurd. I've never been charged before anywhere else I've ever been. I'll be buying my glasses elsewhere as I don't think I can trust their measurement, and the nickel and dimeing in the glasses department is icky.
The doctor was great tho, and the exam was thorough. Can't stress that enough. Kudos to him, shame on the glasses dept.
UPDATE: Went back for another eye exam 2 years later. As usual, the doctor was awesome. Got a thorough, accurate, and helpful visit. Dr. Vanderploeg was great.
However, the glasses department dropped the ball again. I wanted new lenses made for my existing glasses. They said they could do it, but when I said I didn't want blue light filtering, they told me that wasn't possible. It's fine if they only offer those services, but they tried to tell me that EVERYONE does it that way, and my glasses did in fact have blue light filtering. My old office charges extra for blue filter coating, and I declined to spend the extra money. I know for a fact my glasses did not have the blue filter, but they kept arguing with me, were kinda snotty about it, and made me feel dumb for thinking my glasses didn't have blue filters.
I went to my old opticians in Lansing and confirmed they did not have the filter, and I had them make new lenses without it again. The optical department here is just plain bad, and kind of mean. They got two chances, they won't get a third. I'd literally rather drive to Lansing than get glasses where I get my eyes examined, but the doctors are great and I will be back for my eye exams.
The folks in the office are friendly and knowledgeable, but be prepared to wait. Both times I've come in for my annual check up it's taken over an hour to see the OD, despite booking appointments for first thing in the morning.
Melissa at the front desk is soooo Kind and Helpful. She really made my visit . Usually you go somewhere and are greeted by mediocre service, But not here! Thank you Melissa for making my visit a memorable one!
The eye exam was good overall, done a little different than my other eye doctor but much more personable visit.
Staff was very friendly and helpful to my needs and to help with insurance questions regarding billing and copay.
The only thing I didn't like was not being able to talk to the main eye doctor,
About my prescription other than that I would highly recommend Them for your eye care needs due to the increased examination and updated technology during the exam.
Thanks and have a blessed day.
