Curtis R. Baxstrom, OD

My daughter had her first visit today with Dr. Baxstrom. He was educational and went above and beyond in being informative with my husband and I about our daughters case. I left the office with a better understanding on how to help my daughters eye development and I wish I had found this Dr sooner! I am so pleased and am now hopeful with what I've learned. Thank you so much!

I have been seeing Dr. Baxstrom for as long as I can remember, and will keep seeing him as long as I can! He has helped me throughout my life with vision therapy, wearing glasses, prescribing eye exercises that have helped improve my vision, and, more recently, diabetes. He is kind, professional, and very knowledgeable. He is great with people of all ages, including kids. He likes to make punny jokes, which kept me laughing for years, and are sure to make you and your kids laugh too. I highly recommend Dr. Baxstrom!

Visited him after Peter Shelley MD retired. Great experience for me as a father but most pleased for my son who is actually the patient. My son is 3 y/o and we noticed his eye was turning in at the age of 2, as he tried to focus on things. Dr Shelley was great but Dr Baxstrom was very informative and happy he will continue the eye care for my son with him.

Dr. Baxstrom was extremely rude and unprofessional. While examining my relative who suffered a stroke, he wouldn't even talk my relative, only to me. He acted as if my relative was just a project that had to get done. My relative is a perfectly capable human being that deserves to be treated that way. Dr. Baxstrom asked if I had any questions but totally ignored my relative, his PATIENT!

Dr. Baxstrom is an innovative, persistent and caring pediatric optometrist. My daughter was previously recommended for eye surgery before she was even able to communicate what she was seeing. Dr. Baxstrom took the time to perform a variety of eye exams using child focused visuals..a first for her though we were going to the children's hospital previously - he also has toys in the waiting area and kid-friendly staff. He takes digital pictures as he does the exam to truly examine what is going on and shows you exactly what he sees. He even asked if we had pictures from when she was two years younger to send him to support his findings. He has a therapy room where he put her in a children's swing and evaluated whether his recommended therapy would work. I have never been more impressed with a physician and that's saying a lot as I tend to disagree with a lot of the lackluster treatment out there. We got the recommendation from an occupational therapy instructor who has known him for many years. He's well respected / known by the therapy community as we later found out. You would be hard pressed to find a more capable, caring and thorough eye doctor. He also presents at national eye conventions. I literally had tears in my eyes as I watched the massive difference in approach and heard the real reason my daughter was having difficulty along with his confidence in being able to help her with eye training techniques rather than 'well, even after the surgery she may need another surgery at any point as it may revert back.' No comparison. He's the man.

From what I've heard Dr. Baxtrom may or may not be a great doctor. For us we will never know. I brought my 4 year old son here for 2 years and have never once met the man. My son was diagnosed with esotropia around age 2. Instead of doing surgery we came to Dr Baxtrom. I'm not sure if our insurance wasn't good enough to meet this royal man. So for 2 years we were bounced around between his interns and every 3-4 months we would get a new one. So Ofcourse the new doctors would not know what the previous one was working on and we would get no progress in his condition. Take it from us, do not waste valuable years here when your child deserves the very best in eye care and from someone who cares about all their patients.

I am disappointed to report my experience with Dr. Baxtrom. My right eye had swollen up and eventually stayed protruded abnormally. I went to Dr. Baxtrom on a hunch believing it may be some OD related issue. He assessed my eye and told me to put a warm washcloth on it nightly. I returned with my eye being worse (total of 3 visits) with which he continued to confidently tell me he believed it had gotten better and to continue washcloths. I later got a second opinion, after no results from these wasted visits and was diagnosed with a sinus tumor and underwent an extremely invasive and serious surgery . It's unfortunate that my office visit costs were more important than an honest opinion and to refer me out if he hadn't known the root cause for my physical discomfort. This was 2015-2016, but I finally got around to review. I hope if any others have a more technical issue than minimal OD work, seek other medical professionals right away. I endured physical pain and paid for visits far longer than necessary because this Dr couldn't own up to not knowing how to cure something in hind sight, well beyond his scope of work.

After having a stroke and having vision problems as a result, Dr. Baxstrom has helped with getting my vision back to as good as it will get with home exercise therapy & prism lenses. Very professional. Everyone in the office has been very kind.
